Depression Bread Line
Description
The piece serves as a visceral visual representation of the devastating economic, physical, and psychological toll of the Great Depression. It depicts five ordinary, anonymous urban Americans waiting in a somber queue for food rations.
The resulting plaster figures were cast in 3,500 pounds of bronze and treated with a dull, oxidized gray-green patina to withstand the outdoor elements while maintaining a ghostly, melancholy appearance.
